Pioneering folk musicians David Wax and Suz Slezak are the plucky husband-wife duo behind the eclectic, exuberant “Mexo-Americana” band David Wax Museum. The “infectious” (NPR Music) Charlottesville based band known for their shapeshifting personality that defies all genres, has made their national TV debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday and has been featured on NPR’s World Café on three separate occasions. Releasing four records during quarantine, all which chart new musical territory as the band experimented with DIY home recording while waiting to return to the stage.

Big Meadows Area (mile 51 on Skyline Drive)
National Parks are becoming a refuge for people from city light pollution. Join amateur astronomers as they present a provocative presentation on controlling light pollution as you gaze at the heavenly stars through your own binoculars.
We are hoping to bring back the large telescopes but still plan to bring your own binoculars for night skies viewing. The amateur astronomer will point out constellations with a green laser. An electronic scope projecting onto a screen will also show things that the eye can’t see – and in color, too! Free to all park visitors.
Current CDC guidelines will be followed so please be sure to check our website for updates. A blanket, jacket, chair and flashlight are recommended.
Presentation is cancelled if there is inclement weather. Call 540-999-2222 the day of the event to check on its status

Live Music with Ron Hamrick!
Ron has been playing keyboards since he was 5 years old, at first studying classical music. He switched to popular music in his teens and formed his first rock band when he was 14, performing at teen dances in and around his hometown, Niles, Michigan. He also started writing songs for the band a few years later.
In 1967, the band recorded his song “This Is the Time,” and it was picked up by major radio stations. The song became a #1 hit in May 1967. His band, The Sixth Generation, began being booked at major venues across the Upper Midwest, and also opened for major well-known bands of the time, such as The Buckinghams, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, The Boxtops, and others.

Progressive “new-grass” pioneers The Arcadian Wild bring their tight harmonies and incredible pickin to SummerStage. Led by songwriters Isaac Horn (guitar) and Lincoln Mick (mandolin), and with the support of Erik Coveney on bass and Bailey Warren on fiddle, The Arcadian Wild confidently inhabits and explores an intersection of genre, blending the traditional with the contemporary to create a unique acoustic sound that is simultaneously unified and diverse. With one foot planted firmly in choral and formal vocal music, and the other in progressive folk and bluegrass, the band offers up songs of invitation: calls to come and see, to find refuge and rest, or to journey and wonder.

America, a perennial classic-rock favorite, has been making music since the late 1960s when Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek met in high school and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name.” The success of that song led to a 1972 Grammy for Best New Artist and paved the way for a long string of other hits, including “I Need You,” “Sandman,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “Sister Golden Hair.” While Peek left the trio in 1977, and later died in 2011, Beckley and Bunnell continue recording and performing the band’s legendary music.

Blending a variety of musical styles ranging from swing, blues, rock, and soul, this high-energy concert by The Judy Chops will feature original tunes from their recent album Love Is the Answer which features Southern traditions; from soul to funk to rockabilly, the band jumps from genre to genre on almost every song. The Staunton septet—consisting of William Howard (electric guitar, vocals), Molly Murphy (hollowbody guitar, vocals), Sally Murphy (banjo, vocals), Mike Pressel (trumpet), Rachel Smith (baritone saxophone), Jim Hinkle (bass) and Jess Bergh (drums)—clearly enjoys navigating through all these sonic changes.

We are hoping to bring back the large telescopes but still plan to bring your own binoculars for night skies viewing. The amateur astronomer will point out constellations with a green laser. When asked what kind of music he plays, the answer is everything from Johnny Cash to Grateful Dead, James Taylor to REM, and beyond! His main venues are wineries and restaurants.

Join Colorado State University’s Dr. Ann Little will examine women’s identity around the turn of the 19th century. Did the shape and silhouette of clothes impact their experiences? How did ideas of nature inspire these women? Women during this period were touring natural wonders and writing about their beauty and being inspired by nature. But during this time, they were also considered natural resources for a nation that was eager to populate the continent with white American families. How was their American identity formed and reimagined by the inner and outer societal forces?
There will be a companion exhibit on display at the Clarke County Historical Association.

Join the Smithsonian’s Dr. Alison R. Bazylinski to discuss how changes in women’s identity affected fashion and mutually influenced their role in society. How did ideas of citizenship impact clothing from the beginning of the 20th century to before WWII? Did race, ethnicity, and class imbue their dress and fabric choices? This program will explore how a new consumer society was being created where fashion would be defined by American women who played an influential role as both consumer and citizen.

Formerly of the trio Bud’s Collective, Jack has worked alongside past and present members of Mountain Heart, Audie Blaylock and Redline, Dailey and Vincent, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, Blue Highway, Chris Jones, and the Night Drivers and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, to name a few. Though growing up playing bluegrass music, Jack stretches his instrument into other genres such as jazz, swing, blues, rock, classical, country, Eastern Indian folk music, Celtic, polka, and many others. He worked as the apprentice to VA-based mandolin legend Danny Knicely through the VA Folklife Program. Knicely and Dunlap recorded the album “Chop, Shred & Split – A Mandolin Player’s Apprenticeship” together in 2015. The album went on to win Best Bluegrass Album of the Year at the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES).
