Virginia Museum of the Civil War
The Battle of New Market took place on May 15, 1864 on the very grounds of the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. The 300-acre battlefield is preserved as part of the historic Bushong Farm where the Bushong family moved to the basement of their home as the upstairs became a post-battle hospital.
Inside the museum guests are invited to see the Emmy-winning film Field of Lost Shoes, as well as artifacts from the battlefield. Exhibits also include the Kaminsky Gallery of Civil War Firearms, the Robert Raeburn Civil War Art Gallery, and the beautiful Stained Slab Glass Mural Wall by Ami Shamir.
Tour the battlefield along walking trails. A multitude of farm buildings can be explored. Leashed dogs are welcome.
