Massanutten Resort

As winter settles over the Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Resort is buzzing with seasonal energy and offering something for every type of visitor. Whether you’re carving fresh tracks on the mountain or warming up with family-friendly indoor activities, this season at Massanutten blends classic winter sports with new experiences and memorable events.

Slope Conditions and Winter Sports

The ski season at Massanutten kicked off in early December, and the slopes have been in great shape throughout January. According to recent snow reports, the resort currently has all 23 of its trails open with 6 out of 7 lifts operating, and base depths ranging around 24–40 inches. The snow surface is generally described as packed powder, with frequent grooming keeping conditions smooth for skiers and snowboarders across ability levels. Recent light snowfalls added a fresh blanket to the terrain, helping maintain good coverage as winter continues.

Snow tubing remains a highlight as well. The Family Adventure Park’s tubing hill – complete with a convenient conveyor lift – invites riders of all ages to swoosh down multiple lanes of snowy fun, making it perfect for families or groups looking for a break from traditional skiing.

Evenings on the mountain are lively this year, with extended night skiing available on weekends and select weeknights through early March. Glowing neon lights at the tubing area add an extra dash of winter magic after dark.

Indoor Waterpark: Warm Fun Amid Winter’s Chill

When snow and cold aren’t part of your ideal itinerary – or you just want a break from the slopes – the Massanutten Indoor WaterPark provides a cozy, year-round splash destination. The indoor park stays warm and welcoming, with attractions like slides, a lazy river, and play areas suitable for both kids and adults. Pools and activities are set up to keep the whole family entertained, even on chilly winter days.

In response to its popularity, the resort has been planning a major expansion of the waterpark. Construction is well underway on a significant upgrade that will add new attractions – like wave pools, raft rides, and additional slides – alongside cabanas and enhanced dining spaces.

A New Hotel on the Horizon

One of the most exciting developments this year is Massanutten’s new hotel project, currently under construction and expected to be completed in late 2026 or early 2027. The structure will rise five stories and include around 140 newly themed rooms and suites, connected directly to the expanded waterpark via a large atrium. This expansion promises easier access to indoor fun and a fresh hospitality experience for overnight guests, blending resort comfort with convenient access to both winter activities and family attractions.
