Iris Inn

Psst. Can you hear that? Romance is calling and we’ve nailed down a list of intimate, romantic destinations for you to choose from. Whether it’s a Valentine’s Day overnight, a special getaway to ask an important question, an anniversary … whatever it is, we know one of these will suit the occasion.

There is no such thing as a bad room at the Iris Inn in Waynesboro (pictured above). It simply doesn’t exist. Whether you choose one of the calming, minimalist-designed Inn suites, a tucked-away cottage for two, or a luxurious cabin with a private hot tub, you’re in for a sizzling stay. Add a spa session for extra indulgence.

In historic downtown Lexington is The Georges, a boutique hotel that has been drawing attention year after year. In fact, it has been named a “World’s Best” hotel by Travel + Leisure multiple times. The Georges has recently expanded their accommodations to Lawyer’s Row in Courthouse Square. These new king rooms have upped their already high luxury ante by heating the floors throughout the entire unit, not just the bathroom.

French country ambiance is always romantic and if anyone does it right, it’s L’auberge Provencale in White Post. Choose from many rooms of many layouts and amenities. Will it be the Marie Antoinette with the queen bed, fireplace, and clawfoot tub? Or perhaps the Lafayette with the king bed, private balcony, fireplace, and aromatherapy steam shower? Go over the top and add a caviar and champagne amenity.

The Blackburn Inn in Staunton is an 1828 hotel embracing historic architectural features while delivering all of the modern amenities you’ve come to expect in your travels. Book a deluxe queen room with a large soaker tub and rain shower. Add a couples’ massage to unwind, and offer a toast to love at the Second Draft Bistro.

Who said it must be your honeymoon in order to book the Bridal Cottage at The Mimslyn Inn in Luray? Not us! Heck no! Book that thing and get your sweet romance on. The commanding four-poster bed is the centerpiece of this stand-alone accommodation, and from the fireplace to the hot tub, you’ll find plenty of places to stay cozy with your favorite person.

Hotel Laurance in Luray is a popular place for weddings, and it’s easy to see why. The touches of old balance well with the new, and the variety of room layouts means no stay is exactly like another. We’re fond of The Astrid (room 12), which is an easily accessible first floor corner king with a sitting room and ensuite. Romantic touches like a chandelier, tufts, and touches of gold warm the more masculine finishes in the room.

Steeles Tavern Manor in Steeles Tavern has grown beyond the manor rooms to also include a host of cabins. This is another instance where there’s no wrong answer and no bad room. Stay in the manor and be treated to substantial service and fine furnishings or stay in a cabin and have all of the privacy you desire, plus amenities like hot tubs and fireplaces, too.

Luray Mountain Cabins in Stanley have just finished up two new couples’ cottages … just in time for YOU and NOW. Score a date with either the Blue Birch or the Black Walnut – both with cozy queen beds, free-standing soaker tubs, and full kitchens for staying in. Why leave if you don’t have to?

At Shadow Mountain Escape in Luray, a couples-only retreat, experience the magic of being in your own timber-frame cabin on a wooded site near Shenandoah National Park. And, if you’re lucky, the innkeepers might even surprise you with homemade delights or hot Gluhwein (German mulled wine) near their outdoor stone fireplace.

If you choose a romantic getaway at any of these properties, we’d love to see a snap of your stay. Tag us on Instagram (@VisitShenandoahValley) and we may share your love story.
