Mama's Treasures in Luray, VA

Hailed as Virginia’s Cabin Capital, Page Valley includes Luray, Stanley, and Shenandoah. It boasts a plethora of outdoor experiences, including being a gateway to Shenandoah National Park and a steward community of the Shenandoah River. Lake Arrowhead is a popular destination for hot summer days; take note of that now and plan accordingly for summer getaways in the Shenandoah Valley.

The Spirits of Page Valley

In Page Valley, you can enjoy a homemade variety of wine, beer, and whiskey, if you so choose.

River Hill Distillery in Luray is a small-batch maker of bourbon and corn whiskey. “We literally take it from the fields to the bottle,” owner Fred Foley is fond of saying. All of their ingredients come from a tight radius, with Foley’s own farm as the epicenter and primary source.

Also in Luray, Hawksbill Brewing Co., like River Hill Distillery, relies on local farmers and growers to support their beverage making efforts. For the designated driver of your group, Boo Beer – a non-alcoholic root beer made with local honey – is available. Enjoy a flight of their rotating brews.

Wisteria Farm and Vineyard in Stanley is yet another small beverage venture thriving off their own farm efforts. Growing their own grapes on a little more than three acres, the Wallace family welcomes guests daily to sample their wine. With 15 acres total, those same guests are invited to enjoy a hike along their trails or see their Romney sheep, whose fluffy coats provide yarn that is also available for purchase. Be sure to enjoy the Mountain View Farms cheese plate with a glass of Wisteria wine during your visit.

Going Old School in Page Valley

Thrifting for vintage is still a thing, especially with teens, as it turns out. So is vinyl. For the second consecutive year, vinyl albums outsold CDs. Incredibly, according to Billboard, there has been an uptick in cassette tape sales in the past two years, too. Pardon us while we climb out from under our rock to ask, “who is still making cassette tapes?” But we digress.

If you’re into bringing back the non-streaming formats of music for your own entertainment, Page Valley has just the source: Switz-Mix Records in Luray. They bill themselves as “a good old fashioned used record, tape and tee-shirt store,” though we know there are new titles to be had as well, a la “1989 Taylor’s Version.” Spend time browsing; who knows what you’ll find.

For vintage clothing, head to Mama’s Treasures in Luray. Their ever-changing stock will certainly please any eclectic style and may offer up retro fits like mom jeans. After all, fashion is cyclical.

So About the Cabin Capital …

There are more rental cabins available in Page Valley than anywhere else in Virginia. What is so special about a cabin stay? We’d argue it’s the privacy. These aren’t primitive cabins. They are well appointed, cozy, and sometimes better than home, depending on your amenities versus theirs. Cabins can be booked for two to 20, on a mountain or by the river, with a fireplace or maybe just a firepit. Search the 500 available to find your perfect cabin escape for your next Shenandoah Valley getaway.
