Can we be honest for a moment? The pandemic was challenging in so many ways, but we received an amazing gift (in hindsight) that we would not have otherwise sought: a pause.

We can once again choose the use of our time, and perhaps we make it a practice to revisit the pause every so often. If you’re on board, we believe Page Valley is an incredible place to intentionally pause.

Secluded but So Close

A protected mountain valley is an ideal sanctuary for restoration and rejuvenation, wouldn’t you agree?

There are no interstates passing through Page Valley, yet it’s not hard to find from major thoroughfares. Recreation is plentiful, as are river cabins, mountain cabins, and of course, campgrounds. Press pause. Be present.

Intentional Family Time

Page Valley is home to destinations you are likely familiar with, like Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park, yet there is more to see and do that families love.

Float the South Fork of the storied Shenandoah River. The folks at Shenandoah River Outfitters and Shenandoah River Adventures will equip you with tubes, kayaks, rafts, and canoes. Bring a fishing pole and leave the phone. Or at least put the phone on airplane mode. The cameras have come a long way, after all.

One foot at a time, mount up for a trail ride. No experience is necessary, nor is a horse. Our friends at Jordan Hollow Stables have all you need and will lead you on a manageable, scenic, and memorable ride.

A faster pace of exploration is just a link away. Connect with our friends at Appalachian Adventures to arrange a one- or two-hour ATV ride. Again, all you need is yourself and the same sense of adventure that it takes to ride a horse. Let’s go!

You may have heard of Luray Caverns – the largest caverns in the eastern United States – but have you explored the entirety of the property? The fun does not only reside below ground, but also within the garden maze, along the taut strands of the ropes adventure park, among the classic cars and antique toys, within the three-acre frontier museum complex, and at the bottom of your first hole-in-one. Don’t stop until you’ve exhausted all the fun and yourselves!

Hiking, biking, camping, birding, rappelling, stargazing, and dining are all available inside Shenandoah National Park. Explore on your own or with a ranger-guided program; there are many miles of trails to traverse. Discover waterfalls, wildflowers, wildlife, and incredibly beautiful vistas to work up an appetite. Then look to the in-park restaurants to refuel before being dazzled by the light show: the twinkling stars popping against the dark sky and the lightning bugs dancing in the meadows. Pure magic.
