There are so many fantastic ways to have the “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” epiphany in the Shenandoah Valley. From beautiful light displays to the classic theater performances many have grown to love, you can fill every weekend of December with a magical experience.

Christmas on the Farm | Virginia Museum of the Civil War | New Market

Christmas on the Farm

Christmas on the Farm

The historic Bushong Farm is the setting for the 1864 Christmas on the Farm experience. Walk through a recreated Civil War encampment as well as a home for a glimpse into a Christmas during crisis. Visit with families who welcome a holiday without a father or son. Witness soldiers supporting one another to lift spirits. Perhaps you will choose to help with chores on the home front or offer a kind word to the soldiers.

Saturday, December 3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Christmas Capital | Bedford

For more than 60 years Bedford has been known as the Christmas Capital of Virginia. Why? Destination Bedford has a handy list of all the things you won’t want to miss, starting with the Festival of Trees at the Bedford Area Welcome Center and ending with the Flames of Memory at the National D-Day Memorial where 4,413 luminaries set the night aglow.

Candlelight Tours at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest December 1, 3, 6-8, and 13-14
Gilded Christmas at Historic Avenel, December 8, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Holiday Concert with The JoyBells, December 8, 7:30 p.m.
Bedford Community Orchestra Holiday Concert, December 15, 7:30 p.m.

Downtown Front Royal

The community tree and gazebo in Front Royal are front and center for all things Christmasy! Well decorated and festive, you will want to snap some family photos. Don’t miss the Merry Market at Jingle Junction December 3 from noon until 7 p.m. It’s a great place to pick up a gift from local artisan vendors. Stick around for the “Christmas on Main” Christmas Parade at 5 p.m.
