Amtrak – You can reach the Valley directly by train by traveling to the Amtrak station in Staunton, or indirectly by traveling to stations in short driving distance in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, the Washington, D.C. area, and in Harpers Ferry and Martinsburg, West Virginia. If you are travelling by air, you can skip the rental car and schedule a private car service with Shenandoah Shores Management Group (SSMG). Our experienced drivers will pick you up from the airport and drop you off at your destination. And they can safely drive you to any other locations in the area.
Interstate 81 is the main north-south route to and through the Shenandoah Valley.
From the Northeast take Interstate 76 or Interstate 78 west to Interstate 81 south.
From the Northwest take Interstate 76 east to Interstate 70. At Hagerstown, MD take Interstate 81 south into the Shenandoah Valley.
To reach the Valley from the east, the main highways are Interstate 66, which brings you directly from the Washington, D.C. area and connects with I-81 near Strasburg, VA.
Interstate 64, which brings you directly from Richmond and connects with I-81 near Staunton. From the west, I-64 is again the most direct route, coming from West Virginia and linking to I-81 near Lexington, VA.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival
July 18 – August 31, 2025 | Orkney Springs
Shenandoah Music Festival – the longest-running festival in Virginia – is a summer-long series at Shrine Mont with concerts from Motown tributes to Americana, and concluding with the country band “Shenandoah” on August 31.
Tip: Bring lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy concerts at Shrine Mont’s pavilion. Make it a weekend getaway with a stay in nearby Woodstock or there at Orkney Springs to explore local wineries and hiking trails between shows.
Pageant of Steam Show
July 25-27, 2025 | Berryville
Held annually, the Pageant of Steam Show is a nostalgic event featuring vintage steam-powered tractors, engines, and related machinery demonstrations. Of special interest are the tractor pulls and horse pulls.
Tip: Stay downtown to be within walking distance of venues. Arrive early for free pre-concert talks and to explore Staunton’s charming downtown eateries and breweries.
Appaloosa Music Festival
August 30-31, 2025 | Front Royal
Celebrating its 10th year near Front Royal at Skyline Ranch Resort, Appaloosa Music Festival – a Roots festival – returns for a Labor Day weekend of live music across multiple stages. Expect to see Steel Wheels, Scythian, and many more great bands.
Tip: Celebrate in a relaxed setting with camping on-site when booked in advance. Food trucks are available, but bringing snacks and water can save time between sets.
Queen City Mischief & Magic
September 27-28, 2025 | Staunton
Staunton’s most magical, family-friendly festival – Queen City Mischief & Magic – is a popular fan event for wizarding-world enthusiasts, drawing more than 10,000 visitors downtown with themed activities and shops.
Tip: Bring a camera and wear your best wizard costume!
Fall Foliage Art Show
October 11–12, 2025 | Waynesboro
The 54th annual Fall Foliage Art Show, a juried outdoor art festival, transforms downtown Waynesboro with works from 150 artists, gourmet food trucks, and live music.
Tip: Bring cash for vendors and food trucks. Enjoy peak fall color across town or in nearby National Forest areas afterward.
