Craft beer is flowing steady and sure in the Shenandoah Valley, making it a great time to drink in all the excellent flavors. Plus, August is Virginia Craft Beer Month!

Bring your designated driver and sample beers bursting with local flavor. Not only is the Shenandoah Valley’s spring water key for big beer names, but our agriculture lends a hand in the creation of many brews. Some of the breweries have gone so far as to expand their craft to include a harvest of hops and more right outside their door. Hop on the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail to get started, and expand your Valley sips from there by visiting a few of the breweries creating garden-to-growler craft beer.

Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail

A passport of 19 craft breweries ensures you’re never at a loss of where to go on your sipping adventure through the Shenandoah Valley. Collect at least eight stamps in your Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail passport and you’ll receive a commemorative tee for your efforts.

Swover Creek Farm Brewery | Edinburg

Utilizing a generations’ old Virginia Centennial Farm, Swover Creek Farm Brewery specializes in small batch beers featuring their own hops and farm-fresh ingredients. They also lean on friends and neighbors for foods like sausage, which is offered as a topping on their woodfired pizzas and an ingredient for their brats. Swover Creek Farm Brewery makes their own pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and corned beef. Hear from the owners via the video below.

Backroom Brewery | Middletown

At Backroom Brewery the home-grown hops are paired with home-grown herbs to create tasty beverages. In fact, Backroom’s roots are as an herb garden first and a brewery second. Their tap room serves a menu reflective of their farm. Try a pulled pork sandwich and a Lemon Basil Wheat Beer for a true taste of Backroom Brewery.

Elkton Brewing Co. | Elkton

Just you wait for fall. It’ll be here in a minute, and we’re really hoping Elkton Brewing has Clumpkin on draft when it arrives! Clumpkin is their pumpkin ale featuring locally-grown pumpkins from Cline Family Farm. You’ll love the seasonal flavors of roasted chestnuts, butter pecan, and pumpkin spice in this one.

Stable Craft Brewing | Waynesboro

Backyard hops are poppin’ at Stable Craft, a horse farm, brewery, cidery, sodary (is that a thing?) and overnight accommodation. In short, they’re doing a LOT of great things at Stable Craft, not the least of which is growing their own varieties of hops for their beers. Go soon and let us know how you like Juessed. It’s a strawberry marshmallow SMOOTHIE beer. Get. Out.

Don’t miss Hop Fest at Stable Craft August 6!  Tours are offered on the hour from 1 to 4 p.m. by reservation.

Great Valley Farm Brewery | Natural Bridge

It’s not just the farmers who get in on the craft beer contribution train, but the coffee roasters as well. The owners at Great Valley Farm Brewery are concocting a top-notch Coffee Stout with the help of locally roasted coffee beans from Roadmap CoffeeWerks (formerly Lexington Coffee Roasters). It’s an intense and delicious blend of coffee and chocolate you’ll probably want more of. Coffee Stout is released around Valentine’s Day each year, so put an extra heart on your calendar!
