National Scenic Byways: Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway
More than 460 miles of National Scenic Byways course from the northern Shenandoah Valley south to the Virginia/North Carolina border. Skyline Drive (105.5 miles) and the Blue Ridge Parkway (355 miles) meet atop Afton Mountain where Interstate 64 runs beneath them. Wildlife and wildflowers are bountiful along these beautiful roads, and overlooks beg drivers to stop for a peak at the valley below.
Visitor Centers, campgrounds, and even dining and gas options dot the route of the byways. Skyline Drive is the artery of the 200,000-acre Shenandoah National Park, Virginia’s largest national park and a beloved destination for more than 1.4 million visitors annually. The Peaks of Otter is a major Blue Ridge Parkway destination and a source for lodging, dining, and plenty of outdoor recreation.
