EPIC 100 Bucket List
Welcome to the Shenandoah Valley's ultimate travel bucket list. See the categories, meet the winners, and get ready for adventure!
Big Schloss
Big Schloss is a white sandstone outcrop within George Washington National Forest. It was named by German immigrants to the Shenandoah Valley. “Schloss” means castle. If you see the outcrop from below, you’ll agree it is aptly named.
Take the 4.4-mile trail to reach the summit. There is about about 1,000 feet of elevation gain, which can be steep at times. Reaching the peak is the goal, and it’s worth the effort. Native flowers dot the path in spring and of course, fall foliage is stunning.
Plan to stay a while and soak in the amazing views. Camping is at Wolf Gap Recreation Area, your starting point.
