Bryce Resort

Virginia’s ski resorts are winter meccas, but the snowfall this year has enhanced the game. Indeed, the winter fun has begun at Bryce Resort in Basye, called one of the Top 25 Family-Friendly Ski Resorts in North America. There’s plenty of natural powder for playing and the weather continues to be ideal for maintaining the slopes. See what you’re missing at Bryce Resort.

Slope Smarts

Bryce has eight slopes plus a terrain park, and all are open daily for the season. Weekdays are optimal, so if you can steal away, you should. Plus, the rates are a few dollars cheaper during the week. Try your hand at four easy, three moderate, or one black diamond trail … all named with a nod to moonshine.

While the skiers and snowboarders show off their slope skills, connect a line of tubes and set sail with your favorite crew on an 800-foot lane of laughter. It’s the most fun you’ve had since who knows when!

If you don’t have your own equipment, there are ski and snowboard rentals available with advanced reservations. Lift tickets, lessons, ice skating, and snowtubing are also bookable ahead of arrival.

If You Missed It in 2021 …

The pandemic may have slowed some things down, but it didn’t dampen improvement initiatives at Bryce Resort.

A new winter terrain park – Thunder Jug – was unveiled during the 2021 season, as was Bryce’s answer to pandemic dining: an outdoor bar and grill. Called Carter’s Hütte, the all al fresco refueling stop at the base of the ski slopes offers a variety of hot and cold indulgences Friday through Sunday.

Sip, Snack, and Snooze

Copper Kettle is an indoor, sit down, “let’s eat” restaurant offering a seasonal menu for your lunch or dinner. Warm up with a noodle bowl or maybe try their totally lit version of a BLT. It’s on jalapeño cornbread, y’all.

Beside Carter’s Hütte, the other quick pass food destination is The Shenandoah Center. It’s an all-day cafeteria with favorite breakfast and lunch grab-and-go selections.

Bryce isn’t a resort with lodging, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find luxury and comfort just outside the entrance. There are many accommodation suggestions on their website, but a search of popular reservation engines will likely turn up even more.

Ready for More Fun?

President’s Weekend is February 19-20 and a long weekend for those looking to get away from their daily grind. Celebrate the presidents with fireworks and live music when you’re not on the slopes.

Winterfest is BACK at Bryce! After a year off, this fun annual event is back on March 12. Plan to spend time on the mountain, starting with a pancake and waffle breakfast in The Shenandoah Center. The highlight of Winterfest is Pond Skimming. Ski or snowboard your way into a plunge pool – usually dressed in a very cool costume – while being cheered by onlookers. Will you (or they) sink or skim?

While you have your calendar handy, go ahead and scroll over to July. Bryce Fest is scheduled for July 2, and is a free event filled with music and huge Independence Day-worthy fireworks. The team at Bryce have more in store they’ve yet to announce, so stay tuned in to their socials for all the details.
