Ghost stories are better told in the dark. If you’re ready for some chilling moments of your mind running wild, check out a ghost tour in the Shenandoah Valley. Here’s your go-to guide.

The Haunted Historic Berryville Tours depart from Barns of Rose Hill and are offered by the Clarke County Historical Association. Join a tour October 19, 20, or 21 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. Tours run every half-hour and sell out quickly.

Take your typical ghost tour up a notch when you purchase a ticket for the annual Elkton Town Hall Ghost Hunt. Led by Lunar Paranormal Virginia, you can bet it’s going to be a serious endeavor. This special opportunity is offered October 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. Want to dress in period attire to greet the ghosts? Please do! It’s encouraged.

Tours by candlelight? Yes please! Shepherdstown Ghost Tours dish on local legends and share the town’s true ghost stories. Afterall, nearly the entirety of Shepherdstown was a Civil War hospital after the Battle of Antietam.

Haunted History Ghost Tours of Old Town Winchester are exciting, indeed, spine-tingling excursion. Will you encounter the spirits of the Civil War? Mayhap. The tours are offered at 6 p.m. October 28, 30, and 31.

It’s a little eerie to walk through the dark streets of downtown Staunton, but that’s exactly what you’ll be doing when you step to the Ghosts of Staunton. Will you choose to join Staunton’s Haunted History Tour? Or perhaps the Dark Tales and Haunts of the Queen City tour is more up your alley? If you’re brave, get a ticket for the super spooky Friday the 13th edition. Yes, Jason Vorhees is in Staunton just for the occasion. Find the full line-up of special tours and take your pick. They’re all amazing!

Haunting Tales: Lexington’s Ghost Tour is an insightful evening unveiling Lexington’s history. Will you see the ghost of Traveller? Or maybe Lee or Jackson themselves will meet you in town. Tours are offered every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Special tour times are added for October 26 (8 p.m.), 6 p.m. tours for the 27th and 28th, and an 8 p.m. tour on Halloween. New this year are narrated van tours, which accommodate those who are unable to enjoy the walking tour.

Ghost Tours of Harpers Ferry is appropriate for all ages and focuses on the history and unexplained phenomena of the historic town. Tours begin at 8 p.m. and are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays. Reservations are required.
