Whether skiing is a favorite family pastime or you’re the family that enjoys learning new things together, Massanutten Resort – Virginia’s skiing headquarters – is the Shenandoah Valley’s best place to hit the slopes.
The better the winter weather, the more perfect Massanutten’s slopes become. Though snow-making is utilized, nothing beats mother nature’s fresh powder. Monitoring slope conditions will tell you how many trails and lifts are open before you make the trip. As of this writing, 22 trails, 7 lifts, and 10 tubing lanes are operational. That’s ideal for a weekend getaway on Massanutten Mountain!
Know Before You Go: Most Activities Must Be Purchased in Advance [LEARN MORE]
On The Slope
Most resorts encourage even the most skilled skiiers to take it slow and start from the easy trails to work up to the double black diamonds as those ratings are relative to the individual resort. The same is true at Massanutten. Six easy trails get you in the groove (and hopefully on your feet, if you’re new to skiing). No Hessitation is Massanutten’s double black diamond, but you’ll want to conquer the five single black diamonds before you mess with it.
Private and group ski lessons are available and can be purchased as a bundle with your slope ticket. Advance reservations are required and all equipment can be rented.

At the Ski Lodge
Gather ’round for nourishment, heat, and a seat at the Ski Lodge. Grab-and-go food and beverages are easily at hand at Rugged Cup & Ramen Bar or Ski Lodge Cafeteria. Elevations Lounge is a bar atmosphere with soups, sandwiches, salads, and entrees. Mid-Mountain Grill is slinging burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and other easy handhelds. Base Camp Bar & Grill is an indoor/outdoor dining and lounging option on the Ski Lodge patio. Order a burger and a beer with friends.
At the Waterpark
Don’t forget your suit! Plan a morning on the slopes and conclude the day at the indoor waterpark. Slip, slide, and soak your way through the park. Our favorite is Blue Ridge Rapids; grab a seat and float on. If half the group want to play and the other half is ready to be dry, there’s an arcade and dining on-site. Divide and conquer; there’s something for everyone.
When it’s Time to Rest
There is a wide variety of lodging options at Massanutten Resort, and it’s spread into different sections to get you closer to your preferred action. For example, those who are all about the slopes will want to stay in the Mountain area while those who are more interested in the waterpark might choose the Valley area.
