Capon Springs and Farms

Capon Springs and Farms, in the West Virginia region of the Shenandoah Valley, is an all-inclusive mountain resort where you can completely relax. It’s less than two hours from Washington, DC and just 20 minutes west of the I-81 corridor near Strasburg, VA.

For over 86 years, the Austin family has maintained a casual, comfortable atmosphere with a variety of lodging options within the resort’s 115-room capacity. As third generation family member Jonathan Bellingham describes it: “Here you can truly relax, recharge and rediscover your best self. After a Capon stay, you re-enter your everyday life with a fresh start. The Capon experience provides a taste of life as carefree as a child’s, in a community of trust and caring that allows strangers to become life-long friends.”

While at Capon, you can explore 4,700 acres of breathtaking scenery; feast on farm fresh eggs and delicious baked goods prepared on-site daily; or rejuvenate with the resort’s healing spring water. Most of all, you can re-connect with family and make Capon Springs and Farmsnew friendships. Building relationships is a fundamental part of the Capon experience.

“Being taken care of by a family vs. a corporation creates a real tangible feeling of belonging,” said Bellingham, “so that most folks consider Capon their home away from home.’ Sometimes, even marriages have resulted between owners, guests and co-workers.”

The legendary water on the property is something else that sets Capon Springs apart. “The water’s history can be traced through the American experience itself,” said Bellingham. “From the country’s founding to the present day, Capon water has been a constant source of healing and rejuvenation as it flows throughout the entire resort, including our Hygeia Bath House & Spa.”

The grounds of Capon are laid out like a small village, almost campus like– so everything is close and within walking distance. “The daily traditions like flag raising, music in the trees and a dinner bell calling guests to meals create a sense of nostalgia for a place that doesn’t change,” added Bellingham. “The freedom to play, combined with the variety of outdoor activities means it is a haven for kids of every age.”

Capon Springs and FarmsCapon Springs’ formal season opening this year is May 2nd, but a bit earlier they will offer a family fun Easter weekend package from April 18-21st. We asked Bellingham what else visitors have to look forward to this spring.

“Besides joining us for this traditional holiday weekend ‘Eggstravaganza,’ you could also come over for one of our day samplers. This year these “open houses” will be held on Sunday, May 12th and Sunday, June 2nd. As we continue to expand our multiple spring weeknight programs, we’ve added songwriting and guitar instruction to our regular painting, quilting and bridge retreats. We are also continuing our Tuesday night “Dark Skies” events with a NASA solar system ambassador (May 7th and June 11th this year).

“But what we are most excited about is a family friendly party weekend we are planning for Friday, May 31st to Sunday, June 2nd. Save the date and check our website for more details.”

Visit Capon Springs and Farms and it won’t take long to find out why their slogan is “Come home to Capon.”
