If we ever come up with a “Coziness Capital” of Virginia it is bound to be somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley.

Tucked-away cabins in the Valley range widely in amenities, but scenic views, fireplaces, quilts, and a glass of something are common to most. The following inns, B&Bs and cabins would probably make anyone’s list of ideal spots for a cozy getaway.

L’Auberge Provencale
Located in White Post (Clarke County) L’Auberge Provencale emphasizes elegant dining with a truly charming French countryside feel and décor. Many dining events and specials, with a sumptuous Thanksgiving offering.

Shenandoah National Park Lodging
Choose from Skyland or Lewis Mountain Cabins through November 26, or Big Meadows through November 5. In November, most of the leaf-peepers will be gone, adding to the serenity of this revered national park.

The Country Place Lodging and Camping
Multiple properties hosting small or very large groups. Enjoy river views and recreation plus hiking in adjacent George Washington National Forest. Minutes from Luray. Watch the videos.

The Manor House and Cottage Collection
Added recently to the grounds of Luray’s iconic Mimslyn Inn, this cluster of luxury/historic cottages complements a fully restored Manor House. Walking distance to downtown Luray, the Hawksbill Greenway, and minutes from Shenandoah National Park.

Crestview Cottage
The whirlpool, the fireplace, the privacy and scenic views of Massanutten and the Blue Ridge earn Crestview high ratings for coziness and comfort. Open year-round and located just outside Luray.

Shadow Mountain Escape
Stay in a timber frame cabin with Shenandoah National Park literally in the back yard. Various packages involving wine, winter, honeymoons and a focus on romance. The secluded, 15-acre property is minutes from Main Street in Luray.

Luray Mountain Cabins
Three high-end cabins constructed since 2013 with easy access to Luray and Shenandoah National Park. Enjoy hot tubs, fireplaces, Wi Fi, mountain views, full kitchens, DirecTV and expansive decks. Exquisite handmade furniture built by one of the owners adds a memorable touch.

Brookside Cabins
Located between downtown Luray and the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park, Brookside Cabins is a longstanding Valley institution. Fireplaces, hot tubs, whirlpools and Wi Fi are available in some units, and for a true chance to discover peace and quiet, try a few days without a TV. The property includes a gift shop and a family style restaurant that locals and tourists have shared happily for years. Enjoy the view and the sounds of the rippling stream just behind the cabins.

All Star Lodging
Lists nearly 100 rental cabins, vacation homes and cottages, mostly around Luray. They can help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

River Bluff Farm B&B
Beautiful log and timber home on 20 private acres near New Market. Views of Massanutten Mountain and the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Easy river access for canoes, kayaks, and tubes.

By the Side of the Road Inn and Cottages
Circa 1790 home near Downtown Harrisonburg. Fireplaces, featherbeds, whirlpool tubs, luxury showers and breakfast delivered to your door. Choose from one of four Manor House Suites, two unique Spring Water Suites or three private Luxury Cottages.

McGaheysville Timeshares
Buy, sell or rent. Timeshare resorts in McGaheysville are near golf courses, museums, water parks, and year-round outdoor activities such as skiing or hiking. Ideal for family vacations or romantic getaways.

Clear Spring Homestead B&B
Clear Spring Homestead B&B was originally an 1100-acre grant from the King of England to the Martin Speck family. Cuddle up in this historic (1838) home in a classic Shenandoah Valley setting near Dayton. Wake up to true peace and quiet, enjoy breakfast, and visit the nearby Dayton Market for a huge selection of local foods, crafts, arts and gifts.

The Buckhorn Inn
Located in Churchville (near Staunton) and originally built as a tavern in 1811, the Buckhorn Inn has a 200-year history of welcoming travelers. Unfortunately the Buckhorn is temporarily closed while they recover from a fire. Check their website to see when they re-open.

Montfair Resort Farm
Environmentally conscientious owners take many steps to stay eco-friendly, such as: energy-conserving appliances and lighting, low-flow toilets, thorough recycling, etc. Pristine lakeside cottages, mountain views, and many day-trip options to wineries, breweries, hiking trails, etc. In Crozet, near Charlotttesville. Don’t miss their 3rd Annual Open House November 12.

Cabin Creekwood
Cabin Creekwood offers nine pet-friendly cabins in picturesque Blue Ridge surroundings. Cabins are 1 to 3 bedrooms, each fully furnished and with stocked kitchens, BBQ grills, air conditioning, and woodstoves. Choose from rustic options like a 200 year old log cabin, or true modern luxury. One mile from Sherando Lake, in Lyndhurst (near Waynesboro). See their video.

Steeles Tavern Manor and Alpine Hideaway Cottages
Located midway between Staunton and Lexington, the Manor B&B was built in 1916 and offers five spacious rooms; breakfast includes fresh, local produce, meats, cheeses, etc. Accompanying cottages have cathedral ceilings, hot tubs, fireplaces, Wi Fi, and more. This whole area, including the inn, is steeped in Virginia history.

Fox Hill B&B
Quiet country elegance on 38 beautiful acres, and pet friendly as well. Offering both B&B and Private Kitchen suites. Surrounded by spectacular views and close to both Staunton and Lexington. Spark the romance with massages, floral arrangements or a box of Chocolate Expressions.

Applewood Inn and Llama Trekking
The “Virginia Green” logo on their website indicates their commitment to reducing the environmental impacts of the tourism industry. Located between Lexington and Natural Bridge, Applewood is 37 private acres perched above Buffalo Creek. The passive solar home is furnished with antiques, reproductions, quilts, and original artwork. From the top of the hill just behind the Inn, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the mountains.

NOTE: Lots of other Shenandoah Valley accommodations are comfortable and cozy, but don’t fall into the category of “cabins and B&Bs.” See many more options here.
