Massanutten Resort Skiing

In May 1971 the plans for Massanutten Resort were announced, and by February 1973 the slopes were ready for the first winter ski season. Fifty years have gone by and Massanutten has grown into one of Virginia’s most popular destinations and a thriving four-season resort. While it’s certainly a time to celebrate 50 years of Massanutten, the focus is on the future rather than the past.

New for the 2021-2022 Snow Season …

Trails! At the start of the 2021 season, New Advanced Terrain and New Carpet Lift were opened, and the Beginner Terrain was repurposed. Yet to come in 2022 is a new “More Difficult” trail and a new “Most Difficult” trail.

Bypass the ticket window with direct-to-lift pass access! It’s smooth sailing now, folks.

Speaking of lifts, a new conveyor lift has replaced the last original lift in the park. It services the new Beginner Terrain, which also has new LED lighting for a better evening experience.

Snowmaking is vital in Virginia where the winters aren’t always reliable for a vast amount of snow. Massanutten has added 50 new air-water snowmakers, four fan-style snowmakers, and two snowmaking pumps to make this the best, snowiest season yet.

Are you an owner at Massanutten? If so, you’re going to love the new owners lounge on the third floor of the ski lodge. It’s all yours for a relaxing place to take a break. Enjoy the fireplace, new furniture, and renovated bathrooms, as well as the service bar.

Still to Come at Massanutten …

In 2023 and 2024, the resort’s ski area will expand to see three more double black diamond “Most Difficult” trails, plus a new detachable quad lift.
