When John Denver wrote the lyric, “Almost, Heaven, West Virginia…” he could well have been thinking about Capon Springs & Farms Resort.

Is the air that much cleaner here? The view somehow sharper? Come and see for yourself.

Located a little less than two hours from Washington, DC, Capon Springs & Farms is 4,700 acres of mountain views, deep woods and scenic rivers. You can enjoy all the amenities you could ask for—wonderful food (much of it grown or raised right on the farm), group activities, live entertainment, etc. And the spring water used in the Hygeia Bath House and Spa has been sought after for centuries as a source of healing and rejuvenation. The Spa allows day visitors as well as overnighters.

Owned and operated by the same family since 1932, Capon is arranged like a small village, so just about everything is within walking distance. Capon has 14 unique cottages with a variety of accommodations. Each historic building has its own unique attributes that make it perfect for a family, couple or an individual.

While its many years of service to guests is part of Capon’s historical charm, the owners are constantly planning new things to do and launching remodeling efforts.

“We will be offering 19th century carriage rides around our grounds on Saturday September 12 and 26,” said Jonathan Bellingham, 3rd generation family co-owner and Guest Services Director. “And our 4,700 acres have plenty of hiking trails to explore nature and sporting activities to encourage friendly competitions.  We still provide live music entertainment in our private resort experience.”

“We also rebuilt our entire Main House front porch, which adds to the beauty of one of the more popular outdoor spaces to enjoy a carryout meal,” Capon’s Megan James told us. “For evening entertainment, we modified two popular indoor events to accommodate outdoor spaces.  Now Bingo at our Sunset Lodge and movie night at our Music Pavilion have become so popular that we intend to continue them post COVID.”

As COVID-19 considerations are unavoidable we asked about steps Capon was taking.

“Capon is the perfect getaway for both outdoor recreation and physically distanced dining,” said James. “With the traditional busy summer vacation time over, September allows for a quieter escape.  Within our all-inclusive experience of lodging, dining and activities, you can create your own “bubble” of privacy– an intimate getaway with your significant other, family and/or friends.

“Our 50% maximum indoor dining space,” James continued, “means those who choose to enjoy our traditional family style meals have plenty of room.  Those who prefer private dining in more secluded indoor or outdoor locations, can enjoy our carryout option for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  We offer maximum flexibility to choose at each meal which venue you want to enjoy our made from scratch all you can eat feasts.

“After their stay, exit surveys by guests show a 92% safety rating and 83% would recommend for others to come to Capon at this time.   We require masks in all indoor spaces as well as daily temperature checks for all staff as well as guests upon arrival,” James added.

This has been a hard summer in a lot of different ways. A stay at Capon Springs & Farms may well be just the boost you need as we enter early fall.
