Waynesboro is conveniently located at the crossroads of the Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail, where outdoor activities abound including tons of great hiking trails and overlooks. Just steps from the charming downtown, fly fishers of all skill levels will love our stocked South River, where they’ll have the opportunity to catch trophy trout year-round. Don’t worry if you aren’t an expert fisherman – the friendly staff at the South River Fly Shop will be happy to guide you on an excursion. If fishing isn’t on your adventure bucket list, a float on the 4-mile Waynesboro Water Trail is an exciting way to take in the views from a kayak or canoe. Maybe you’d prefer to view the river from dry land? Then the South River Greenway Trail is the perfect route for you, with easy access from downtown and three of our seven city parks. Waynesboro is also home to the Western Trailhead of the Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel, one of the newest and most unique trails in Virginia, which leads visitors through an abandoned railroad tunnel that was originally built in the 1850s.
