Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

I-81 Exit 317 or Exit 310. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV) interprets the art, history, and culture of the great valley for which it is named. This regional history Museum complex includes the Glen Burnie Historic House, six acres of spectacular gardens, and the Museum designed by architect Michael Graves. The house is now closed until 2014 for a comprehensive preservation project.

Plan for at least one hour to explore the gardens and another hour or more in the Museum galleries. Visit the gardens in the morning, have lunch in the Museum Café, and see the galleries in the afternoon. Open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Museum Café is also a good place for afternoon tea. Don’t miss the Museum Store during your visit.

Museum of the Shenandoah ValleyDates & Hours: The Museum is open year-round; the gardens will be open from March 1 through October 31 in 2012. All are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and closed Monday, Thanksgiving, December 24 and 25, and January 1. The historic house is closed until 2014 for a preservation project.

 


Upcoming exhibits include Waging War during the Civil War August 3 to December 2, 2012.

Admission: Adult: $8 (November through February, Museum only) or $10 (March through October, Museum and gardens). Youth (7-18) & Seniors: $6 (November through February, Museum only) or $8 (March through October, Museum and gardens). Garden Audio Tour: Free to MSV Members; all others, $2 in addition to admission. 

Discounted rates and special tours are available for adult and student groups of 10 or more. Reservations are required for all group tours.

Directions to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley:

Points from north: I-81 south to Exit 317 then follow signs for Route 37 south to Route 50 (Winchester/Romney exit); Turn left onto Route 50/Amherst Street. After one mile, the entrance is on the right.

Points from south: 1-81 north to Exit 310, then follow signs for Route 37 north to Route 50 (Winchester/Romney exit); Turn right onto Route 50/Amherst Street. After one mile, the entrance is on the right.
