Start by touring the O. Winston Link Museum, located in the former Norfolk & Western Railway Passenger Station, also home to the Roanoke Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Next, continue down Norfolk Ave. to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, housed in the N&W Freight Station. This museum is home to Virginia’s most extensive collection of locomotives.
See the star atop Mill Mountain? The Merchants’ Association sponsored the construction of the star back in 1949 to promote a festive holiday shopping season in Roanoke. The star has been shining ever since! Drive up Mill Mountain - or hike the Mill Mountain Greenway to get there. You will be able to take in a view of the entire city!
From Mill Mountain, hop onto the Blue Ridge Parkway to enjoy the changing of the seasons. Or, visit the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests for 1.8 million acres of recreational opportunities.
